Bolsonaro taken into custody after being considered a flight risk

Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The former head of state was found guilty of planning a military coup in September and given more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he was staying under confinement pending court reviews.

High Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a safety action after "new facts" emerged.

Bolsonaro was found guilty of orchestrating a conspiracy aimed at maintaining his control after he lost the 2022 election to his political opponent, Lula.
